PCB生产涉及多学科、多工艺、多设备、多工序、多物料，有人认为这是一个高资金密集的行业，高污染的行业。生产发展了，环境污染了，这是谁也不愿意看到的事情。
阻止或扼杀这个行业发展不是好办法。其出路应当是走清洁生产和可持续发展的道路。PCB生产过程的污染源主要是废水、废气、废渣，实践经验证明，印制板的污染是可以得到处理的。
这个行业老总十分注意推行建立ISO-14000国际环境管理体系。建立这个体系，才能持续全方位改善环境。而建立这个体系，才可以接到国内外著名大客户的订单。目前，我国已有数十个家PCB企业陆续通过ISO-14001的认证，走在了其它行业的前头。
广东省、深圳市从去年开始，重点整治PCB，电镀行业。发出红头文件，暂停新建技术含量低、污染大、规模小的PCB企业。规模投资大，技术含量高，对环境造成重大影响的项目要集体审批。深圳市环保局要求，PCB企业废水必须达标，废水回收利用率要≥50%。其管理思维叫做增产不增污。
目前，增产不增污的思维在PCB行业正在深入人心。已有一批PCB厂废水处理站废水处理不但达标，而且废水处理后循环回到生产线上使用，废水回收利用率达到≥50%。还有许多企业，正在作废水循环回用的技术改造方案。
另外，印制板行业又是金属资源消耗形行业，所使用的主材覆铜板50-60%以上的铜要被蚀刻变成废的蚀刻液，蚀刻废液是PCB厂里废液量最大，而又最有回用价值的资源。经过努力，废蚀刻液再生和铜回收系统的创新工艺会很快在全行业内推广使用，这样，在工厂内部既可实现废蚀刻液铜的回收，又可作到废液循环使用，废液零排放，从而达到“以废养废”，变废为宝，清洁生产。
许多企业老总已认识到，加入到PCB行列就要重视环保。不重视环保，PCB企业随时可能被查封、关闭。增产又增污，超标排放废水的企业过得了今天，过不了明天。印制板污染是可以得到处理的，关键是企业领导思想。中国PCB行业的出路是清洁生产，可持续发展。当然，这样做，开始阶段要投些钱，加大了成本，但最终得益的是自己，还有社会和我们的子孙后代。
